In the meantime, here are some of the most frequently asked questions about SureSmile.

What Are SureSmile Clear Aligners?

SureSmile clear aligners are custom-made, transparent plastic aligners that are worn over the top and bottom teeth to gently shift them into the desired position. When worn correctly, clear aligners for adults and teens can correct crowded and crooked teeth as well as a range of bite issues like overbites, underbites, crossbites, and open bites.

How Do SureSmile Clear Aligners Work?

SureSmile aligners work by applying gentle, consistent pressure to teeth, gradually moving them into better alignment over time. The custom clear aligners are typically worn for 20 to 22 hours per day and are changed every 1 to 2 weeks. There are no metal components involved, i.e., wires or brackets, which means increased patient comfort while they’re in place throughout the day.

Am I a Candidate for SureSmile Aligners?

Ideal candidates for SureSmile aligners include patients that have teeth that are crooked and/or crowded. Our local SureSmile dentist may also recommend clear dental aligners to those with bite issues.

For example, clear aligner treatment may be used to correct an overbite or underbite. That way, you can achieve a more harmonious relationship between your upper and lower jaws. To truly know if SureSmile is right for you, you’ll need to schedule a consultation with our Grand Rapids, MI, dental office.

How Long Does SureSmile Treatment Take?

The length of treatment with SureSmile clear aligners can vary per patient. Generally, treatment takes between 6 and 18 months. Much like with traditional braces, the time it takes to finish straightening teeth with clear aligners is highly dependent on your specific dental needs.

Can I Eat and Drink Normally While Wearing Aligners?

SureSmile clear aligners are removable. This means that you’ll be able to eat and drink normally without any restrictions. However, they should be removed during meals and replaced after brushing and flossing. You should also remove aligners before drinking anything staining, such as coffee or red wine.

Is Treatment with SureSmile Aligners Painful?

Patients may experience some discomfort or pressure during the first few days of wearing new aligners. However, this typically subsides quickly as the teeth adjust to the new aligners. Also, please remember that you can easily manage temporary discomfort by taking over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen.

Can SureSmile Clear Aligners Fix All Orthodontic Problems?

While SureSmile clear aligners are effective at treating many orthodontic problems, they may not be suitable for all cases. Our dentist can evaluate your individual case and determine if SureSmile clear aligners are the right treatment option for you.

How Much Do SureSmile Clear Aligners Cost?

The cost of SureSmile aligners can vary depending on the individual case and the complexity of the treatment. Our dentist can provide you with a personalized estimate for the cost of treatment during a one-on-one meeting.
